Black mass recovery is the foundational stage of our recycling loop. We take lithium-ion battery scrap — end-of-life cells, production rejects, off-spec packs — and process it into black mass: the critical intermediate from which all downstream material recovery flows.
What We Accept
We process lithium-ion battery scrap across chemistries: NMC, NCA, LFP, LCO, and mixed-chemistry streams. Input formats include individual cells, modules, and partial packs. We accept both domestic scrap from Indian sources and imported feedstock from our US procurement network.
The Process
Battery packs are assessed and sorted by chemistry on arrival. Cells undergo controlled discharge before mechanical processing in our nitrogen-atmosphere shredding line — protecting against lithium oxidation and electrolyte reactions. Separated fractions (steel casings, current collector foils, electrode powder) are then dried and processed to produce black mass meeting downstream specification requirements.
Quality Control
Every batch of black mass is sampled and characterised for key parameters: lithium content, cobalt/nickel/manganese ratios, graphite content, moisture, and impurity levels. This characterisation underpins the pricing and routing of each batch into the appropriate downstream stream.
